The sailing team travels and competes in a very active intercollegiate schedule within the New England conference, which is home to the largest and strongest conference in college sailing. The team has also made occasional trips to more southern schools as well as to the west coast.
The team currently has over 68 boats including but not limited to a fleet of 18 FJs, Lasers, 420s, a Hobie 16, several Sunfish, Bugs, RS Teras, kayaks, O’Day Javelin, Bytes, and coach boats used both for the college team and the summer community sailing program.
Mission Statement
The mission of the UNH Sailing Team and its summer community sailing program is to foster a healthy sailing environment that values dedication, participation, perseverance, and fun. The sailing programs offer students and community members both competitive and non-competitive opportunities.
Mendums Lake is on Hall Rd. in Barrington. If you enter Recreation Drive., Barrington NH into your GPS, it will bring you to the entrance which is marked by a large sign “UNH Rec Area”. That’s also where Mendums Lake and the Sailing Centre is located. Just follow that dirt road and turn right at the ‘Sailing’ sign (at the first fork) down to the boathouse.
Alternately, from the north take I-95 N from the Boston, or I-95 S from Portland area exiting in Portsmouth NH for Rte. 4. Go west on Rte 4, beyond Durham to the Lee traffic circle, about 14 miles. Continue west 2.6 miles past the Lee traffic circle. Look for a brown sign “UNH Rec. Area” on the right as you go up a hill. Large power lines run across the road. Take a right after this sign onto Hall Rd. UNH Sailing Centre is approx. 1 mile down Hall Rd. on the left.
From Concord follow Rte. 4 E through Northwood and look for a brown “UNH Rec. Area” sign on the right as you come up a hill. Large power lines run across the road. Hall Rd. is on your left.
