All staff & volunteers undergo annual background checks and are trained in UNH Policy and Procedures for the Protection of Minors to provide a positive and safe experience for every participant. In addition, all staff undergo the CDC HEADS UP Concussion training and are First Aid/CPR/AED certified.

Diana Weidenbacker has been the Director and Junior Racing Team coach since the summer program re-emerged over 26 years ago. She is also the Head Sailing Coach at UNH, and was chosen as the 2022 Collegiate Coach of the Year in the New England Intercollegiate Sailing Association, the most competitive conference in the USA.

She is also the coach of Spring M.S.S.T. (Mendums Seacoast Sailing Team), an after-school learn-to-sail and race program for junior high and senior high school students from any school that does not have an established sailing team.

The Summer MSST program is a racing team focused on ILCAs (Laser), FJs, and 420s. Sailors with sailing experience and a recommendation from their instructor may sign up.

She just retired from teaching Special Education at Winnacunnet High School in Hampton, NH. She is US Sailing Level 1, 2 and 3 certified.  In addition, Diana has also been a Level 1 Instructor Trainer. You’ll also get to meet her service dog, Sebastian, a blond Golden Retriever.

We have added new staff and are expanding our site (but not the parking unfortunately). We added Salty Sirens, a Women’s Sunfish program aimed at both the ‘new’ to sailing, as well as the racer and hosted the first Salty Sisters regatta. Stay tuned for more Salty Sisters opportunities.

Junior Instructors must be at least 15 years old and registered in one of the afternoon classes and have been in the summer program for at least one summer. They will be available during the week and occasionally on Saturday.  Most Junior Instructors are also members of MSST.
