This is the first Sailors of The Week and the honour goes to the team that went to Larchmont for the largest collegiate regatta in the world, the Storm Trysail Regatta. Justin Marks, skipper, Jared Rodriguez, mainsheet trimmer and flew spinnaker, Annie Sager, jib and main downwind, Paige Fagan, squirrel and jib, Terry Clarke, foredeck. Together they put on quite a performance. Along with coach Chris Lund they captured a third AND a first place. Their two other races were frought with spinnaker issues.
The first race their spinnaker separated at the seams before the race even tarted. They raced back to land and got a second spinnaker making it to the starting one about five minutes late. Nonetheless they began to catch up but it was too late.
In race three they were in the top three until a spinnaker takedown fouled which cost them the race for the top three spots.
Congratulations to the team for a job well done this past weekend.
Sailor of the week for October 9 – 15 goes to Andrew Klein who developed a unique fundraising opportunity for the UNH Sailing Community by developing Good Food For UNH, a Facebook site. Andrew sold pulled pork (amazing taste), unique French Fries and Cheese/Hamburgers at this past weekends UNH Homecoming Tailgate event. Thanks Andrew for thinking about the UNH Sailing Community which I hope provided you with as much as you have provided us. It’s ideas such as these that truly exemplify the commitment to TEAM.
